Salty Kicks Off 2008 Whitetail Season with a 7 pointer!
Evan (Salty) Holt's buck was a 7 pointer and weighed 108 pounds. He shot it on the second day of the 2008 Youth Gun hunt. He had scouted a few days earlier in the area he shot the buck and seen him. This is Salty's second year of deer hunting and it looks like has deer hunting in his blood now. I am very proud of this young man. He was with us when he shot his first cottontail rabbit and is pretty "salty" with that pump 20 gauge shotgun. I just bet in a few days he will bring over another nice buck when our modern gun season starts the 22nd of November.
J. A. Barber - Muzzle loading season 08 - 5 point - 110 lb.
James A. Barber filled his tag with this nice 5 pointer the second day of muzzloading season, October 26, 2008. He was hunting one of the stands on his property. He was only able to hunt one day of the 9 day hunt, but brought home the meat. The buck was fat and really in good shape. It field dressed 110 pounds. Good going son!
G. M. Barber - Muzzleloading season Oct. 29, 08
This little buck came by my deer stand on opening morning about 8:20 a.m. From the distance he looked like a basket head 6 pointer. I decided to let him walk and maybe a larger one would come by sooner or later. I didn't hunt the evening hunt because this area is mostly a morning hunt. I hunted the same stand for three mornings and all I saw was a few doe and a button head buck. On the 4th morning into the season this fellow came back into my sight and I decided to go ahead and try for him. I shot a little high, but knew I had him. He stumbled out of his trail into some tall horse weeds and fell down. Every once in awhile I could see him raise his head and then lay it back down. I re-loaded the 50 caliber Thompson Center Diamond and waited a few minutes, climbed down from the 21' Cabella buddie deer stand and walked to where he was lying. I counted the points and to my suprise he had 9. I walked to the Honda 300 and rode home asked B.J. to go back and help me load him. We brought him back to the nearest stock pond we call # 1. I field dressed him and we loaded him back onto the 4 wheeler. The buck was fat and really in good shape. I figure him to be about 18 months old. (I am almost ashamed to show this buck with with the ones James, Lynn and Stan scored on)! Oh well, this season isn't over with yet and I am very proud they have been successful. If anyone deserved a good buck James did. The deer stand he was shooting out of was made by him and out of solid steel material. It took three men and a kabota tractor to hoist it up in the tree. I have used it a couple of times and its great. I shot a 6 pointer during muzzle season 2006 from it. (Got turned around going in before daylight finding it, but found it when daylight came)!
Stanley & Bo Redford - Nice 8 pointer shot with 30.6 at 220 yards.

Stanley W. Redford and son Bo! They shot this nice 8 pointer on the first day of Modern Gun season. These two hunters live in Pleasant Hills, Missouri. Stan was using a 30.6 and shot the buck at 220 yards.
STAN & BO REDFORD
Stan W. Redford & son Nathan "Bo" Redford are from Pleasant Hill, Missouri. They shot this nice buck on November 15, 2008 somewhere in Missouri. Little Bo is a dedicated hunter and loves it. Stan shot this buck at 220 yards with his old faithful 30.6 Rifle. Looks like he has a real future deer hunting partner. Stan goes to the T&C hunting lodge in Kansas once in awhile and has invited James, Kirby and I up this December to hunt whitetail, but I doubt if I can go. Thanks for the invitation Stan...kill a trophy for me!
Aunt Gertie
Nathan "Bo" Redford - Beautiful buck!
James & Seth's 10 Pointer 11-22-08
Grandpa and The Kid!
James & Seth killed this nice 10 Point - 128 pound buck on opening day of modern gun season 2008. I heard the shot and knew by the sound the shot counted! Seth was sitting with his grandpa in the deer stand when this buck came into view. They both looked at it and Seth gave him thumbs up! that was a signal to his Grandpa to shoot. I am sure eight year old Seth will never forget this hunt. James is having the head mounted as a Christmas present for Seth's wall. Now isn't Seth a lucky little boy! I am proud to say they are part of my family...Keep it going James!
Two Shots - Two Hits! 11-22-08 Modern Gun Season
Seth and Grandpa, James hauled in two different species on opening morning of modern gun season. This Wiley coyote was shot after James shot the nice 10 point - 128 pound buck. Its unusual that you see a buck deer and a coyote hauled home on the same hunt! Good going Seth...Grandpa is teaching you well...Carry on the tradition!
Lynn Allen Harvell's 10 Point - 145 lb. buck shot on 11-22-08
Lynn A. Harvell shot this nice 10 point - 145 pounder on opening day of Modern Guns season 2008. The beams were 5" in circumference. If he had came by our place 30 minutes earlier he and cousin, James A. Barber could have hauled in both their 10 pointers to the check station together. Nice buck Lynn and I am proud to claim you as a nephew. I remember the first time you and I scouted for deer and you were about 14 years old. You came a long ways since those days...Keep on doing your thing and bringing home the big guys! (He and James were hunting about 2 miles apart)!
Trey Woods does it again!
Our little friend Trey Woods did it again! Look at the nice 80 pound deer he shot on November 26, 2008 during modern rifle season. In spite of a broken femur suffered while playing football and having to use crutches his dad helped him with a pop up ground blind and with this young mans stamina and determination he was successful again this year. Good luck Trey and contratulations on a nice looking deer. (I just bet your dad, Grandpa and Uncle Stoney are proud of you)!
Fonda Kay Barber's Anniversary Deer!
5 Pointer - 88 lb. shot with 06! November 26, 2008
Fonda Kay said she is calling this "The anniversary deer", cause it was hers and James 32nd. It was getting around 5:15 p.m. and never did see anything, so I just thought that it wouldn't hurt to use the bleat and grunt call, so after I did use it, I waited a bit and nothing. I stood up to get down from the tree stand and here he comes in around 5:30 p.m. He put his head down and I saw antlers, so I looked thru my scope and sure enough I was right. He walked under the feeder and looked up at it, and then turned and started walking away. I thought now is my chance. I got nervous then and couldn't find my safety on my gun, I thought oh lordy, but did find it and was aiming for the base of the neck. Well, I got to shoot and all I seen was fire and the buck put his tail up and took off running. I heard him stumbling and then nothing at all, so I call James to see if he heard me shoot and he said no. I told him what had happened and he brought the buggy down with more flashlights. I showed him where the buck was when I shot and you should have seen the blood trail, he had ran about 30 yards. I did not hit him in the neck, but I made a clean heart shot, I missed the base of the neck because he was walking at the time I shot. the reason he was stumbling like he was, is because I had shot right thru his right front leg. It was exciting, my first deer for the season. (Story written by Fonda)...
